What are the requirements to open a Stake account?

It only takes a few minutes to open an account on Stake – all you need is some I.D. and access to your email. Once you’ve activated your new account, you can make a deposit and start investing on the U.S. market. 

What are the requirements to open a Stake account?

To apply for an individual investing account, you’ll need to:

  • Be aged 18 or older

  • Have a valid address in Australia

  • Be an Australian resident, citizen or hold a valid visa (student visa, working visa, etc)

  • Have an ID issued by the Australian government (driver licence or passport) or a bank account in your name

You may need to provide some additional information if you’re opening an SMSF, Company or Trust account. See below for more details.

Tips for opening your account fast

Stake uses digital verification to securely streamline your application process. The information you provide is checked against various databases to automatically verify your identity. To ensure the smoothest onboarding process possible, please make sure you enter the following details accurately:

  • Your driver licence or passport number or other government-issued ID

  • Your residential address (it should match what’s on your ID if applicable)

  • Your email address

Extra documentation

In cases where your information can’t be verified automatically, we may request additional documents to be uploaded for a visual check, such as:

  • A photo of your government-issued ID (licence, passport etc)

  • A photo of you holding that ID

  • A copy of a recent bank statement or utility bill to confirm your current address

Once you send this through, following the prompts to ensure legibility of all the relevant information, we should be able to verify you and get you going.

SMSF, Company and Trust accounts

If you’re looking to open an SMSF, Company or Trust account with Stake, you’ll need to provide:

  • The company's ABN (SMSF and Trust) or ACN

  • Personal details of the directors, individual trustees and/or beneficiaries

  • Electronic signatures from all required signatories

  • Corporate trustee information (if applicable)

Additional documents/information may be requested. Please note that SMSF, Company and Trust accounts are only available for Australian Stake customers.
